Fashion Trend: Running Shoes

What’s in style, what’s on-trend and how to incorporate the look into your wardrobe.

Good news for our feet, ladies: sneakers are everywhere this season making them a major fashion trend to hit the streets this fall. In fact, this is a trend that has been experiencing its own renaissance since last spring – women have embraced it, and by the looks of it they have no plans of letting it go anytime soon.

Given the reign of athleisure, it doesn’t come as much of a surprise that the Paris, New York, London and Milan runways are rife with different variations of the running shoe, as are the city streets, but what keeps them fresh this season – as well as stylish – is their pared-down insouciance: the colours, the designs, the fabrics, all of it is very modern and very wearable and I love that.

From classic, crisp white sneakers (like Nike’s Cortez ’72 sneaker) or Chuck Taylors; Adidas’s high street Stan Smith vibes or even Fenty Puma by Rihanna Satin Bow Sneakers, there’s a shoe to fit every foot and every personality. They simply look cool – almost like a wearable art, really –  and frankly I’m of the mind that virtually any woman of any age can pull them off with aplomb.

If there’s one thing I’ve learned, it’s that sneakers go with everything. Because of their versatility, you can really dress them up or dress them down – think wide-legged trousers, to a menswear-inspired suit, floral dress or a flouncy skirt. You will look chic without looking like you tried too hard, which is always my go-to recipe for great style. Although I would never encourage you to get rid of your high heels, opt for a pair of cool kicks this season and try out the trend. It’s effortless and above all else, fun!
