Spring style: Transitional pieces to bring into the new season ahead.

Our transitional seasons, especially spring, can be tricky: some days the sunshine will make us ready to retire our winter coats and move into denim jackets and floral dresses, but other days those frigid winds can come back in a fury wishing we were back to being bundled up in cashmere and wool.

That’s really where the whole concept of “transition” dressing comes in. It’s not about buying an entirely new wardrobe, but more about investing in key pieces that you can add to your existing closet that work for whatever the season may throw at you: warm days or chilly nights. For spring style, light layering is key; trade in your dark wash denim for lighter varieties, and reintroduce colour (and white!) into your outfits again. Here are 5 key pieces to make an effortless move from winter to a (hopefully) glorious spring.

Leather or bomber jackets

I’m having major parka fatigue, so I can’t wait until the warmer temps mean I can wear some stylish and flattering jackets again. I’ve always loved a great leather jacket or bomber, and this spring season does not disappoint with many variations of the theme. If you’re feeling particularly bold, opt for this season’s colourful moto jackets in shades of pink, mint or blue. The pop of colour will completely brighten your whole look, and you can wear it day or night.

Sweater and skirt combo

Aren’t we all over wearing pants? I am. Let’s swap out for a bright midi skirt and layer it with a chunky sweater on top. I love the juxtaposition of an airy skirt paired with a heavier sweater; plus, the sweater will keep you warm on those cooler days and the skirt is a lovely segue into the spring season.

Trench coat

This is a staple – every, single season. I love a trench because it’s lightweight and goes with literally everything. Whether you stay classic or go with a print or pinstripe, it’s something you will wear more than you even realize.

Light wash denim

Light wash jeans just feel lighter in look and feel in comparison to are dark, heavy denims we wear in the winter. I love the classic high-waist versions that are coming out for spring. Dressed up or down, you can wear them in any type of weather.

White sneakers

I’m certifiably obsessed with cool sneakers, and I always love a fresh pair of white ones for spring. They’re effortlessly chic, not to mention comfortable, and they are my go-to this year.

Lightweight knits

Trade in your chunky, heavy knits for something lighter that you can throw under a jacket or wear solo if the temperature is warm enough.
